Discover the post-harvest handling and packaging process of Cavendish bananas at NETSCO — from harvesting the bunches to loading containers for export.
The quality of export bananas depends not only on cultivation practices but also on the post-harvest handling process. At NETSCO, every stage from harvesting to container loading is carefully managed in accordance with international export standards.
Bananas are harvested when they reach the appropriate physiological maturity, typically 11 to 13 weeks after flowering, depending on weather conditions. Harvesting at the correct stage is essential to ensure the fruit can withstand long-distance transportation in refrigerated containers while maintaining quality upon arrival.
Immediately after harvest, banana bunches are transported to the pack house. Here, the fruit is separated into hands, washed, inspected, and graded according to size and appearance. Only bananas that meet quality standards are selected for packing.
Each carton contains 13 kg of bananas and is lined with a PE bag to help maintain humidity and regulate ethylene levels during transportation. Every carton is labeled with complete traceability information in accordance with the requirements of importing markets.
The 40ft refrigerated containers are maintained at a temperature of 13–14°C, the optimal range for preserving green bananas during transit. Depending on the loading method, each container can accommodate approximately 1,300 cartons with pallets or up to 1,573 cartons without pallets.
With 400 hectares of cultivation area and two harvest seasons per year, NETSCO ensures a stable and continuous supply for import partners across China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
